Who We Are

The Leprosy Mission (TLM) is an international Christian development organization that has been present in Mozambique for over 30 years. Our work focuses on eliminating the causes and consequences of leprosy and supporting the most vulnerable communities through health programs, social inclusion, community development, and advocacy.

In Nampula, Zambézia and Cabo Delgado, the Mission Against Leprosy works in partnership with local governments, civil society organizations, churches and community leaders, with the aim of promoting dignity, social justice and inclusion for all people affected by leprosy or at risk of exclusion.

OUR MISSION

By following Jesus Christ, TLMMZ seeks to promote transformation, breaking the chains of leprosy and empowering people to achieve healing, dignity, and a full life.

Our vision

To see leprosy defeated and lives transformed across the country. We will do this by bringing together diverse key partners in synergistic cooperative relationships that sustainably contribute to breaking the chain of transmission, preventing disability, and promoting inclusion. TLMMZ's role is to build capacity and strengthen systems to facilitate this engagement and maximize added value.

our values

  • Compassion
Like Jesus, we deeply care for others, especially those afflicted with leprosy and the most vulnerable. We put ourselves in the place of those affected by the disease, understanding their suffering, and we walk alongside them with Christian love, supporting their physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being.

  • Integrity
We work with honesty and transparency, ensuring consistency between our message and our actions. We promote open communication, where challenges and successes can be shared without fear. We respect our partners and work together to find solutions and achieve common goals.

  • Justice
We promote human dignity and human rights. We advocate for the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Guidelines on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons Affected by Leprosy and Their Families. We work to ensure that the voices of people affected by leprosy are heard and amplified, supporting them in leading advocacy processes and combating injustice. We have appropriate mechanisms in place to actively protect vulnerable children and adults from abuse.

  • Inclusion
We value all people, believing they were created in God's image. We promote equal access and opportunities for all and are committed to eliminating discrimination and barriers that prevent people from living life to the fullest.

  • Humility
We treat everyone as equals and do not consider ourselves superior. We serve the most marginalized, often in difficult contexts, with care and respect. We are willing to perform tasks that others avoid, just as Jesus washed the feet of his disciples.

  • Collaboration
We recognize that we cannot achieve our vision alone. We seek to collaborate with people affected by leprosy, governments, universities, and NGOs with similar values to maximize the impact of our work.
